What a trip our honeymoon was! We spent a week at our resort timeshare in Puerto Vallarta, during which Hurricane Roslyn brushed nearby. Then we went across Banderas Bay for a few days and stayed in a palapa in Yelapa. We wandered the town, hiked the waterfalls, and spent our final day on the dock waiting for the last water taxi out when the noon boat broke down.
After Yelapa, it was back to Puerto Vallarta for Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos. We rented a junior suite, complete with balcony and kitchen, in a grand old hotel called Hotel Suites La Siesta, with an incredible panoramic restaurant on the 7th floor. We were about four blocks up from the malecon, where the largest Catrina was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records during our stay. The artwork, ofrendas, costumes, and parades were amazing to experience - a huge bucket list item for us both. (It was also very loud: hooray for earplugs.)
We also took a couple of day trips. One was up to Punta de Mita, where we took a boat out to the Mariettas Islands. We declined the hidden beach, but had a great time around other parts. We even got to see blue-footed boobies (a bucket list item for E since childhood)! The other tour we did was at Planeta Cacoa, a chocolate garden that our friend Mina is a part owner in. We even got to make our own chocolate!
We had a wonderful time wandering through old town Puerto Vallarta, hitting up one street taco joint after another and seeing the sights. We climbed a lot of stairs and I broke my toe.
Then, on our last full day, I tested positive for COVID.
. . . Fuck.
Thankfully, we both got our bivalent vaccine in early October, and Greg never tested positive. My symptoms were mild, and I started on a hefty dose of Prednisone as per medical advice. We extended our stay by four days, then Greg flew back to Colorado while I stayed another few days in PV to isolate and clear symptoms. I am having some remaining neurological crapola (insomnia, fatigue, invisible tremors, that sort of thing), but am working with an acupuncturist and hope to clear these leftovers out soon.
