The three stages of trauma recovery are:
- Safety and stabilization (stabilization)
The first and most important step in trauma recovery. This stage involves re-establishing a sense of safety and trust. - Remembrance and mourning (processing)
This stage involves processing the trauma, putting words and emotions to it, and making meaning of it. - Reconnection and integration (integration)
This stage involves creating a new sense of self and a new future. It involves redefining oneself in the context of meaningful relationships.
