bodywork for grief

In the belly of the whale

During the darkest, coldest months of the year, we may need a little extra support. The holidays can be especially challenging, fraught with conflicting emotions of joy and sadness.

If you are grieving a loss, the feelings of isolation can already be difficult to bear.

This winter, use the natural energy of the season to reflect and go dormant, to find your feet again and gather your strength for the journey forward.

  • Health diagnosis, injury, or procedure

  • Friendship breakups

The nitty-gritty

This is a winter bodywork series focusing on massage, breathwork, and guided meditation for those suffering from loss. Grief travelers will also be given suggested reading and journaling options to support them in their journey. This is a limited-enrollment four-month series, one session per month.

There is an application process, starting with the free consultation, to see if we will match well with each other. Grief is a very individual journey, and the things I can provide will not resonate with everyone.

Sessions run approximately 3-4 hours each. The financial commitment for our work together is $1700. Payment options are available.

What to expect during a session

Each grief traveler will be given a copy of Megan Devine's It's OK That You're Not OK, as well as the companion journal that goes with it.

Sessions will start with a short reading -- a blessing of sorts, if you will -- by poet Jessica Kantrowitz. From there, we move into breathwork, guided meditation, and massage. I utilize a table warmer and weighted blanket to help downregulate the nervous system. Long, soothing strokes are matched with guided breathwork to loosen knotted tissue and release hidden pockets of emotion. On average, this part of the session is expected to last ~2-2.5 hrs. (I also provide unlimited Kleenex.)

Afterwards, travelers are given time and space to reflect and journal. Devine's companion journal is recommended, but all travelers are encouraged to do what feels best for them. (I promise, no one will check your homework. This is for you, not me.)

This is a safe space where emotional releases are okay. You can cry, scream, wail, laugh, talk . . . or be silent. Our focus will be on your breath and inner work, but you do what you need.

what i expect from clients

All prospective clients are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID. Additionally, COVID tests will be administered immediately prior to the beginning of each session.

As I work out of my home, clients should be comfortable around dogs and goats. Critters will not be in attendance during session, but they will likely come out and greet visitors upon arrival. Clients will also need their own transportation, as I live in the boonies and there's not many public options.

Clients should be open to the practice of journaling. Experience is preferred but not necessary.

This series is structured around deep, transformative work. You should expect the time commitment for each session to take up most of your day; I recommend taking the remainder of the day to process whatever may come up for you during session.
